Old versions of JSesh, as well as JSesh sources, can be downloaded from SourceForge. You can also subscribe to the JSesh mailing list (which is very quiet right now).

Installation instruction for mac

IMPORTANT there was a problem with cut and paste on some macintoshes, the hieroglyphs being filled in black in Word. I solved it, and the result will be included in the next official distributions of JSESH. Meanwhile, here is a corrected version.

JSesh has been tested on Mac OS X 1.3 (panther) and 1.4 (Tiger). It might work with Mac OS 1.2 (jaguar) if you upgrade the software called "java" to version 1.4.1 (see here.) However, I haven't tested it.

Download JSesh-install_....jar. It's an installer. Start it (double click), and follow the instructions. After installation, a spurious "JSesh.desktop" file will be created. You can delete it.

The installation creates a directory containing the documentation and a Mac Application. Go to Application/JSesh to lauch JSesh (click on the owl hieroglyph).

Installation instruction for windows

First, be sure to have a Java Runtime Engine (JRE) (a program which can run java softwares) on your computer. You can download one for free at www.java.com.

JSesh should work with java 1.4 and 1.5.

Install your JRE

Download JSesh-install_xxxx.jar. It's an installer. Start it, either by double-clicking on it or typing

	java -jar JSesh-install_xxx.jar
      

Now, JSesh is installed ; a desktop shortcut is created. Just double-click on it.

• 11/19/2006 : version 2.3.6 : SVG export. You select a zone of text, and you can save it as SVG text.
• 10/10/2006 : version 2.3.4 : bug fixes, revised signs.
• 2/10/2006 : version 2.3.2 : Improvement in text layout, bug fixes, updated documentation.
• 19/6/2006 : version 2.2alpha (and greater): Cut and paste to other applications possible! you can copy and paste hieroglyphs to word or openoffice. Other improvements: there is now a user interface to change things like sign height, line width, etc. Line numbers can be added without writing manuel de codage code.
• 27/2/2006 : version 2.0alpha14d : bugs fixes, SVG import easier, various new signs included.
• 8/11/2005 : version 2.0alpha9. columns, right-to-left, and users-defined signs. Version 2.0alpha7 had an installation problem on the mac.
• 24/5/2005 : fixed a bug in pdf output. The last line did not appear. (thanks to bug report from Christian Bayer).
• 7/05/2005 : much better pdf output. The pdf files are smaller, and the page layout is reasonable. This makes Jsesh suitable for producing printed documents (I had broken the page layout while working on a new system for columns. When this new system is finished, everything should be right, but meanwhile, I suggest using pdf output).

  A few minor nuisances fixed about the way text is entered.

• 28/3/2005 : installer bug fix : the Windows installer now creates shortcuts again (this had been disabled in the 16/03/05 version). The mac installer does show a annoying "shortcuts" page, and create a non functional shortcut now. Simply delete it.
• 16/03/2005 improvement of the installation procedure for macintoshes : the MacOSX version of JSesh now appears as a true mac application.
• 1/12/2004 Menus for all hieroglyphic constructions, including group editor.
• 15/11/2004 important update. Lots of new menus ; sign selection by transliteration.
• 10/11/2004 Major update. full editing capacities, WMF export added, and a user documentation.
• 20/10/2004 First update. Better printing, correct pdf and jpeg output facilities, and a new HTML export facility : write a manuel de codage file, and export it to web pages !
